BIO:

Norry Niven was born into a family of performers. His grandfather went around the South with a tent and a projector, playing films to small towns that had no theaters. Mom acted in community theater. Dad played pedal steel guitar for Willie Nelson and Bob Wills. Carrying on the family tradition, Norry began his career as a magician at Six Flags Over Texas during his teenage years. Norry found his love for film shooting Super 8 Movies as a kid and spoof commercials. In college he barely survived the blowing up of a car for a regional commercial he starred in, wrote and edited. Norry went on to sign with Hollywood Production company, The End. Then started to direct music videos and commercial work for global brands like Hasbro, Gatorade, Ford, Lincoln, McDonald’s, HBO, Showtime, Disney, and American Express.

Norry’s current feature film, “GET BACK UP” (iTunes/Amazon) recently earned 9.5 out of 10 stars on Film Threat and his first feature film, “CHASING SHAKESPEARE” starring Danny Glover (2016) earned more than a dozen film festival awards including Best Feature and Best Director Awards in Hawaii, Orlando, Cannes and Hollywood. His commercial work has been honored at Addys, AICP Show & Next Awards, winning dozenns of Promax Golds and Best in Show. Gold in directing at New York Festivals. Earning Emmy Awards for his promo work on “Ray Donovan,” “Homeland”, “The Tudors,” “Dexter,” “Weeds,” “American Idol” and “24:Live Another Day,” Norry has directed national spots with athletes and celebrity talents like Jon Voight, Matt LeBlanc, Don Cheadle, Claire Danes, William H. Macy, Edie Falco, Michael Sheen, Queen Latifah, Mariah Carey, Steven Tyler, Simon Cowell, Jennifer Lopez, and Mary-Louise Parker, Peyton Manning, Dwight Howard, Dwayne Wade, and Cam Newton.

His work is on display in the permanent installation of the Museum of Modern Art in New York.

He teaches film at The University of Texas Arlington.

Known for luminous film, dynamic in camera visual effects, vfx/editorial and directing celebrity talent, his ability to curate beauty and navigate the intricacies of performance shine through in his work like a time-encapsulating projection on a canvas tent. The subtlety of exploding cars aside, Norry is compelled to film because it reaches places in the imagination that are untouched.

If Norry didn’t have a camera to tell stories, he would be sitting by a campfire telling tales…and often is.
